Who we are

Father Peter Paul Maher Council 6793 of the Knights of Columbus, a fraternal organization in Olney, Maryland. This policy covers the members' portal at frmaher-council6793.org, the emails the council sends its members, and the council's text-message program described at frmaher-council6793.org/sms.

What we hold about members

• Roster details from the council's membership records: name, membership number, email address, mailing address, and phone numbers.
• Sign-in records for this portal: when a member signed in. The portal never stores a member's birthdate in readable form; it keeps only a one-way hash used to check the password.
• What a member does here: event RSVPs, document reviews, sweepstakes ticket requests with the mailing address given for them, and contact details a member updates himself.
• Text-message consent: the mobile number a member enrolls, and when he opted in or out.

How we use it

To run the council: telling members about meetings and events, taking RSVPs, mailing sweepstakes tickets, reconciling donations, and sending the notices members have asked for. We do not sell member information and do not use it for advertising.

Sharing

Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Member information is shared only with the service providers that carry the council's mail, texts, payments, and hosting on our behalf, each bound to use it only for that purpose, and with the Knights of Columbus Supreme and Maryland State Councils as membership records require. Donations made through PayPal are subject to PayPal's own privacy policy.

Text messages

Members opt in to texts themselves, on their member profile, and can stop at any time by replying STOP or unchecking the box. Message frequency, costs, and instructions are on the program page.

Keeping it safe, and for how long

The portal is served over HTTPS, sign-ins are rate-limited, and only council officers with the administrator password can see the member list. Records are kept while a member belongs to the council and for as long as the council's own record-keeping requires, then removed with the roster.

Your choices and questions

To correct your details, update your profile in this portal or tell the Financial Secretary. To stop texts, reply STOP. To stop council emails, use the unsubscribe link in any message. Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and members are told in the council's next notice.
